City of Hobart: Hobart Current Liberty 2020 Exhibition - Collateral Development - poster concepts phase 1

Hobart Current is a biennial art program developed in partnership between the City of Hobart and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, replacing the long-standing City of Hobart Art Prize.

A series of exploratory poster concepts were developed for the inaugural Liberty exhibition, testing a range of visual directions for the evolving Hobart Current identity. Each concept investigates different approaches to typography, image and abstraction, while maintaining a focus on clarity and adaptability across formats.

The explorations respond to the theme of Liberty through varied visual languages - from atmospheric photographic treatments to bold typographic interventions and more expressive, fluid forms. Collectively, they examine how the identity could shift in tone while retaining a cohesive underlying structure.

This process established a framework for future iterations of the program, identifying a balance between consistency and experimentation that allows each exhibition to develop its own character within a broader identity system
